Joan Dinkelspiel graduated (2017) from the Fine Art Certificate Program at Seattle’s Photographic Center Northwest (PCNW), where her work has been exhibited and where selected images remain in its collection. The Vashon Center for the Arts exhibited her Layers of Water project in commemoration of Earth Day in 2020. The NxNW Juried Exhibition at Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings, Montana, featured (2021) several photographs from the Safe Travels in COVID Time project. She was part of the Anacortes Arts Festival juried show (2024). Her work has been included in the South Seattle Love show at Seattle Light Room (2024 and 2026), including work that originally was installed in a healthcare clinic in Seattle’s Central District. Solas Gallery exhibited (2026) a photograph from her gunnera project as part of its Northwest Current exhibit.
Her public art is installed in the Seattle Metro bus shelter project and was part of The Fence Project in collaboration with Friends of the Waterfront Seattle. A slide show from her gunnera series was projected (2025) for several months on the exterior of a 6-story building near downtown Seattle as part of the Union public art project, Springtime/Here I Come. She collaborated (2026) with ten other artists to design and install a public art mural, Impermanence, on the exterior of the PCNW building.
Her work is in private collections in the Puget Sound region, New York City, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Her editorial work has appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle and other publications.
